Lacrosse Programs

MetroLacrosse operates a year-round lacrosse and character education program starting with player recruiting and clinics in the winter, followed by team league play in the spring and fall, and camps in the summer. Over 100 volunteers support all of these efforts annually.

Eligibility

Any 3rd through 12th grade boy or girl who lives or goes to school in Boston, East Cambridge or Chelsea is eligible to play on a MetroLacrosse team. MetroLacrosse now offers four levels of play to address both the athletic and emotional growth of our players:

  • The Rookies League is open to 3rd and 4th grade boys and girls.
  • The Youth League is open to 5th and 6th grade boys and girls.
  • The Junior League is open to 7th and 8th grade boys and girls.
  • The Varsity League is open to 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade boys and girls.

Players are required to tryout for MetroLacrosse teams. Tryouts are based on R.E.S.P.E.C.T. rather than athletic or lacrosse ability.

Annual Program Calendar

Winter

As a way to actively recruit new players and their families to the program, MetroLacrosse introduces the sport of lacrosse and its program to over 7,500 youth annually through school visits and interactive presentations.  In addition, Varsity players are eligible to participate in indoor lacrosse leagues.

The winter season consists of two seven-week sessions.  The first is currently under way and the second begins in mid January.  All games are played at the Canton Sportsplex.  If you are interested in catching a game please see the links to our boys and girls schedules below.

Spring

The 11-week spring season is the main entry point for players into the MetroLacrosse program.

Each spring approximately 500 kids are selected to participate in the program by attending tryouts, which are based on their display of the values and skills of R.E.S.P.E.C.T. rather than on athletic or lacrosse ability.

Summer

SummerBounce is a one-week overnight camp for 100 Juniors players (entering 8th and 9th grade) held at the New Hampton School in New Hampshire.

SummerScores is a four-week day camp for 130 Youth and Junior players (entering 6th - 9th grade) held in Dorchester and Chelsea.

All Lacrosse Boston MetroLacrosse runs an official Counselor-In-Training Program for 5 weeks in the summer.   MetroLacrosse players who will graduate 10th, 11th, or 12th grade this spring are eligible to apply for one of ten paid positions as a Counselor-In-Training (C.I.T.).

Fall

The four-week abridged season is for approximately 250 players.

Provides returning players with an opportunity to continue building lacrosse and R.E.S.P.E.C.T. skills.

Offers new players a chance to learn more about the sport of lacrosse and the MetroLacrosse program.

"In my religion class the other day we had to write about an experience in our lives where we can remember experiencing pure joy. I wrote about that season and our first goal in Charlestown. We were all going crazy because of that one goal…the game just stopped for a few minutes while we all threw our sticks down and hugged each other. That is what joy was like to me."
