MetroLacrosse is excited to roll out a new program model for the Spring of 2009 that will allow us to serve more youth and teens. Building on what we have learned over the past 8 years, MetroLacrosse refined its program to effectively serve the diverse needs and interests of our participants, families and volunteers by offering two options for participation: Team Program and Intramural Program.
Team Program
The Team Program serves over 300 youth, grades 5-12 at three levels of play (Youth, Junior and High School) with boys and girls teams at each level. There are a total of 10 teams this spring which includes more competitive athletics and provides opportunites for summer camps, school-year homework help, ISEE/SSAT and SAT test prep, college access support, and academic scholarship. Teams are based in Dorchester (South) & Chelsea (North) but are open to players in any neighborhood.
Intramural Program
The Intramural Program serves up to 600 youth in grades 3-8 in fun, safe, and enriching out-of-school- time programming that includes weekly skill-based lacrosse activities, an introduction to the R.E.S.P.E.C.T. curriculum and access to summer camps. The Intramural program is carried out in collaboration with strategic community partners in Boston and Chelsea. This opportunity is available to any new player, and to returners who cannot make the time commitment required to be on a team, but would still like to participate with MetroLacrosse.

R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
MetroLacrosse highlights the importance of a healthy lifestyle, focuses on developing
strong teamwork and communication skills, and aims to teach participants lessons that
are transferable to their daily lives.
MetroLacrosse has developed a comprehensive youth development curriculum that focuses
on the values and skills inherent in R.E.S.P.E.C.T. (Responsibility, Effort, Sportsmanship,
Participation, Enthusiasm, Communication and Teamwork). Now in its ninth year, MetroLacrosse
is confident that its curriculum represents one of the most comprehensive sports-based youth
development initiatives in the country.
In action on the field, R.E.S.P.E.C.T. looks like:
Responsibility: Be on time; bring all your equipment to practices and games; own up to your behavior.
Effort: Always give 100% on and off the field; run through drills; challenge yourself.
Sportsmanship: Shake hands after a game; speak positively about referees, teammates, opponents and coaches;
find a positive outcome regardless of a win or a loss.
Participation: Attend every practice and game; have a positive attitude about trying something new.
Enthusiasm: Cheer on your teammates; come ready to play.
Communication: Talk on the field; call your coaches if you’re going to be late or absent; talk out conflicts; listen.
Teamwork: Help a teammate learn or master a new skill; pass the ball; support new players.
