Eligibility

Any 3rd through 12th grade boy or girl who lives or attends school in Boston or Chelsea is eligible to play on a MetroLacrosse team. MetroLacrosse offers four levels of play to address both the athletic and emotional growth of our players:

  • The Rookie League is open to 3rd and 4th grade boys and girls.
  • The Youth League is open to 5th and 6th grade boys and girls.
  • The Junior League is open to 7th and 8th grade boys and girls.
  • The High School League is open to 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade boys and girls.
Fall Programs

Rookies, Youth & Juniors Fall Season
Fall season is 8 weeks long with practices twice a week on a weeknight as well as three Saturday mornings.  Sessions are held at your local field on Tuesday and Thursday in Dorchester under the lights (Ronan Park, 135 Adams Street, Dorchester | map), Monday and Wednesday in Chelsea (Chelsea High School | map). There will also be three special events on Saturday mornings (October 18, November 1, November 8) at Franklin Field (130 Talbot Ave, Dorchester | map) .  There will be a bus to take players from Chelsea to Dorchester on the Saturdays.  This is a great chance for new participants to learn the basics of the game and for returners to sharpen their skills.

Dates: September 15th—November 8th, 2014
Times:

  • Dorchester – Tuesday/Thursday 6-8pm
  • Chelsea – Monday/Wednesday 6-8pm
  • Both locations at Franklin Field – Saturday October 18, November 1 & 8, 10am-Noon

Eligibility: Boys and girls who live or go to school in Boston or Chelsea and who are in 3rd-8th grade
Team Placement: Rookies: 3rd-4th, Youth: 5th-6th, Juniors: 7th-8th

High School Fall Season
Fall season is 8 weeks long and practices are held weeknights. Tuesday and Thursday nights are at Moakley Field in South Boston, 5:30-7:30pm and study hall/enrichment on Wednesday night a week, 6-7:30pm at the MetroLacrosse Office (209 Green Street, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130).  Participants are required to get themselves to and from practice at both locations.  No transportation is provided.  This is a great chance for new participants to learn the basics of the game and for returners to sharpen their skills.
Dates: September 15th-November 8th, 2014
Times: Practices are Tuesday/Thursday nights, 5:30-7:30pm | Enrichment is Wednesday night 6-7:30pm

Winter Programs

Winter Drop-In’s
Winter training is a six week program that takes place on Saturday mornings in the months of January and February. Practices will be filled with drills, games, and conditioning to help players get ready for the upcoming Spring Season. Players new to MetroLacrosse are welcome to participate and practice locations will be available both in Dorchester and Chelsea.
Dates: January 18-February 22, 2014; Saturday Mornings
Locations: Dorchester – Young Achievers Pilot School (20 Outlook Road, Mattapan) 9:00am-10:30am; Chelsea - Clark Avenue Middle School (8 Clark Ave) 8:30am-10:00am
Eligibility: Boys and girls who live or go to school in Boston or Chelsea and who are currently in 3rd-8th grade.

High School Winter Workouts
Winter Workouts is 6 weeks long and meets Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of each week.  Two days are at a gym to work on strength, agility and stick work and the third day is an indoor practice at the MetroLacrosse office.  This is a good opportunity for returners to prepare for the Spring Season.
Dates: January 13th, 2014 – February 19th, 2014
Mondays and Wednesdays:
Practices 6:00-7:30pm at the Melnea Cass Recreation Complex, Roxbury
Tuesdays: Classroom/Enrichment 5:30-7:00pm location TBA
Eligibility: Boys and girls who live or go to school in Boston or Chelsea and who are in 9th-12th grade

Transportation: Transportation is subject to demand. We will be in touch to confirm details regarding transportation after we have an idea of number of players.

Spring Programs

Rookie Spring Season
The 8 week spring season is the perfect time to introduce our youngest players to team play.  Players can sign up to have their home field be at Chelsea High School or at Franklin Field in Dorchester.  Practices will be held 1 night per week with games and special events on Saturdays.  Our Rookies will play on a modified field and participate in inter-squad games on Saturdays as they learn the basics of the game.
Dates: Mandatory RESPECT Tryouts: March, Season runs from April through June
Eligibility: Boys and girls who live or go to school in Boston or Chelsea and who are in 3rd and 4th grade

Youth Spring Season
The 10 week spring season is the primary season of play for MetroLacrosse Youth teams.  Players can sign up to have their home field be at Chelsea High School or at Franklin Field in Dorchester.  Practices will be held 2 nights per week with games and special events on Saturdays.  Youth teams will play on a modified field and will participate in games against other MetroLacrosse teams.  Bus transportation will be provided for any games or events that are not scheduled to be played at their home field.

Junior Spring Season
The 10 week spring season is the primary season of play for MetroLacrosse Junior teams.  Our Junior program is the next step in refining your skills as a lacrosse players as well as a teammate.  Players can sign up to have their home field be at Chelsea High School or at Franklin Field in Dorchester.  Practices will be held 2 nights per week with games and special events on Saturdays.  Our Junior teams will participate in games against other MetroLacrosse teams as well as other external local lacrosse teams.  Transportation will be provided for games and events that are not scheduled to be played at their home field.

High School Spring Season
The 11 week spring season is the main season of play for the high school Bulldogs team.  The Bulldogs home field is at Moakley Park in South Boston; all high schoolers from Chelsea and Boston participate on the same team starting in high school.  Practices/classroom time will be held 5 nights per week with games and special events throughout (occasionally on Saturdays).  The boys and girls teams will play an 8-12 game schedule against other high school programs in the Metro-Boston area.
Dates: Mandatory team meetings in mid-March, and season runs from March 17th-May 31st.

Summer Programs

High School Summer Workouts
Four weeks of summer fitness/lacrosse skill sessions.  Guest coaches will attend throughout, and participants will have to opportunity to plan and lead different aspects of practice.

SummerBounce - Closed to Boston area participants

SummerBounce is an annual overnight summer program for participants entering grades 7-12 in the fall of 2014. A highlight of the MetroLacrosse calendar every year, SummerBounce features a great staff, plenty of lacrosse, and the Alpine Tower team building experience. This year SummerBounce will welcome participants and staff from cities across the country.
Dates: Week 1 –  Current 5th-7th Graders, July 20-25 / Week 2 – Current 8th-11th Graders, August 10-15

Coaches-in Training
MetroLacrosse provides employment opportunities for 10-15 teen participants through its Coaches-In-Training and MLK Summer Scholars Program .  CITs are trained as coaches by MetroLacrosse staff and receive additional professional development training through the MLK Summer Scholares program.  The job is 8 weeks of coaching young people at various summer camps across the city.  CITs are responsible for all aspects of planning and executing sessions.  In addition to coaching, CITs are required to help with several small projects throughout the summer.

Summer LacrosseFIT
MetroLacrosse will provide summer day programming for 2 sessions during June and July. Players are welcome to sign up for one or both sessions.  Each session will be open to players who have previously participated a program offered by MetroLacrosse. The days will consist of lacrosse sessions to improve the skill and fitness of participants and classroom sessions to allow the participants to explore the topics of leadership, health and nutrition, and community service. A healthy lunch will be provided to participants. Summer LacrosseFIT is a great way for kids to improve their lacrosse skills and stay active through the summer while developing strong relationships with peers and mentors through the R.E.S.P.E.C.T. curriculum.
Eligibility: Players entering 4th – 8th grade who have previously participated in any MetroLacrosse program
Dates: Session 1: June 30 – July 3 / Session 2: July 7-10
Location: Chelsea High School, 299 Everett Ave, Chelsea, MA 02150
Transportation will be provided to and from Franklin Field
